The Joy of the Lord, October 7-8, 2007
Words and Music by Leah Van Maaren

I was reflecting on the word "Joy" and what it could possibly mean to a Christian. I've come to the conclusion that "Joy" is beyond feelings of happiness or goodness, but is the accompanying feeling of hope. Joy is the everlasting happiness of hope in Christ, hope in the Kingdom to come, hope in God's actions in the world now. In the good times, the times of quiet, the times of thirst for Christ, and even in the storms of life, joy overwhelms all. It's like the eternal trump card of anything earthly or temporary.

VERSE 1:
In Your blessing, I adore You, God of Glory, Lord of all
Joyful now, my heart is beaming; full of gladness, I stand tall

CHORUS:
Hallelujah, the joy of the Lord overwhelms me
Hallelujah, the joy of the Lord is my strength

VERSE 2:
In the quiet, I adore You, God of mercy, God of grace
In the silence, joy is whispered as I humbly seek Your face

CHORUS
Hallelujah...

VERSE 3:
In the desert, I adore You, God of wisdom
Steadfastness is the promised joy before me
As I thirst for righteousness

CHORUS
Hallelujah...

VERSE 4:
In the darkness of the valley, when the storm of life invades
On Your wings, I soar above it as You carry me
As You carry me
As You carry me... today

CHORUS
Hallelujah...
