Not What You Want, October 7, 2005
Words and Music by Leah Van Maaren

A reflection on Christian community and a defining week.

Who can you tell when life is sliding downward?
What is the honest thing to tell a trusting soul?
How do you know that you won't become the object of conversation,
A spreading of the inner self, no longer whole
It's not what you want, it's not what you need, anyway.

You once were told that "This is how true love works,
This is the place of where true healing begins"
But now I know the truth of those who live out on the outside
Where love exists in spite of me
It's not what you want, it's not what I need, anyway.

A simple burden, too heavy to bear
Threatened hopes of life made clear
Is this to be the better stage?
Or love poured out and love betrayed?

It's not what you want, it's not what I need, anyway.
