I Will Fear No Evil (Psalm 23), June 22, 2010
Words and Music by Leah Carolan

This Fall I'll be finishing up a Master's degree in church music by completing a one-hour concert conducting my church's choir. It will be a night of music that is based on texts that were accessible to the early Christians and encouraged them in the their faith amidst great persecution. It was my goal to write at least one piece for the concert and I decided on Psalm 23 as my text. While it is me singing in the recording, the song is written for 3 pt choir (soprano, alto, men) and the highlight is when all three parts overlap one another. I'm excited to record this in November with the choir. Imagine part 3 with a large drum accompaniment, and almost the sounds of battle with it.

Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death
I will fear no evil.
Yea, though I walk through the valley of the storms of this life
I will fear no evil

Even in the darkness, You are there,
Even in my weakness, You are there,
I will fear no evil
Even though all hope is fading fast,
Even though the darkness seems to last,
I will fear no evil

The Lord my God is with me
His rod and staff, they comfort me
And He prepares a place for me to dine before the enemy
To dine before the enemy
To dine before the enemy
